Hi, I'm Jonathan Davis. I scored 45/45 in 2024. I'm now studying at ANU, and am passionate about helping students to master the IB.

I offer online one-on-one tutoring in HL/SL Maths AA, Physics, and Chemistry, plus support for IAs, the Extended Essay, and Theory of Knowledge.

I work with students at every level. Whether a subject has become a struggle or you're chasing a 7, sessions start from where you are, and if you're aiming for the very top, I know exactly what it takes to get there.

What I teach

I received 7s across all my subjects. My ongoing tutoring is focused primarily on Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. I also provide support for the English A (Language & Literature) IO and the Psychology IA.

I believe success in the IB requires three things: a deep conceptual mastery of the content, the fluency to put that knowledge into practice, and understanding exactly what the IB is looking for in every exam and assessment task.

About me

Hey, I'm Jonathan. I’m currently studying the Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) in Science at ANU, a research-oriented science degree, focusing on applied mathematics and neuroscience.

I completed the IB Diploma Programme at Townsville Grammar School in 2024, scoring 45 in the November 2024 IB exams. I also obtained As in both Theory of Knowledge and my Extended Essay in Mathematics, the latter of which explored the use of ordinary differential equations for modelling complex problems in physics.

Outside of school, I've appeared on ABC Radio National chatting science with Dr Karl and on the Science Show, and received an Australian Museum Eureka Prize for my short films explaining scientific concepts to a general audience.

How it works

One-on-one sessions Weekly or intensive online lessons, focused on developing deep conceptual mastery of the content and the fluency to put that knowledge into practice.

Assessment support Feedback on IAs, the EE, and TOK essay. I'll help you understand exactly what examiners are looking for on every assignment, and work with you one-on-one to perfect your work. Available as a standalone service, and for ongoing clients.

Between-session support Questions don't wait for scheduled times. My students are always able to contact me by email for quick support between lessons.

Who runs 45IB Tutoring?

45IB Tutoring is run by Jonathan Davis, who scored a perfect 45/45 in the November 2024 IB Diploma exams and was the highest-scoring IB student in Queensland that year (IBAS 45.75, ATAR equivalent 99.95). He now studies science at the Australian National University.

Who is 45IB tutoring for?

Any IB Diploma student who wants to do better, wherever they're starting from. It suits students who are struggling with a subject, have fallen behind, or are finding the step up to HL harder than expected, just as much as students who are already doing well and want to push for 7s. Lessons start from what each student finds hard, and every syllabus point is tracked from not started to exam-ready, so progress is clear whatever the starting point.

Which IB subjects do you tutor?

Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches (HL and SL), Physics (HL and SL) and Chemistry (HL and SL), plus feedback on Internal Assessments, the Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge. I also support the English A (Language and Literature) IO and the Psychology IA.

Is tutoring online?

Yes. Sessions run online, so students anywhere in Australia or overseas can work with me. In-person sessions in Canberra are available by arrangement.

How much does IB tutoring cost?

$90 per hour online. Multi-lesson packages are available.

How do you track progress?

Every syllabus point in each subject is rated from not started to exam-ready and updated after each session. Students get targeted practice papers built from IB past-paper questions on their weakest points, plus session notes, through a private student portal.

Can I book a few sessions just before my exams?

Yes. Focused exam review sessions are available before the November exams, aimed at the topics and paper types you find hardest: $90 for one session or $250 for three. More about exam review sessions.
